We planned our whole summer around Cheyenne Frontier Days. It’s the biggest outdoor rodeo in the U.S. “The Daddy of ‘Em All!” The 10 day event includes 3 parades, 3 free pancakes breakfasts, 10 days of rodeo, exhibits, a midway of fair rides & food, and all the vendors you can stand to buys stuff from.

Bump in the Road

While packing up to head for Cheyenne, I had a moment of stupidity when I thought I was going to push a 1,000 lb motorcycle up a ramp two more inches. Gravity won. The bike dragged me down a 10′ ramp, knocked me into a really nice face plant in the gravel, and then ran over my leg. Couple of fractures later and I am in a leg brace for a good chunk of the summer. I only bring it up because some of the pix here show me in a wheelchair being rolled around Frontier Days. Ugh.

Daddy of Them All!

We purchased tickets way in advance (you have to because they will sell out!) and scheduled our meanderings to be in Cheyenne on July 17th. If you’re a rodeo fan, you have to check this out. In the past 3 months we have been to one rodeo or another 12-13 times. Melinda likes her some cowboys!

The wildest thing there was at the very end they did a Wild Horse Race. Teams of 3 cowboys from different ranches drag sometimes not too successfully – sometimes the horse dragged them!) a wild horse out to the track. They have to saddle it and one guys has to ride it around the track. First one across the line wins. Sound simple huh? It was the funniest and wildest thing we have ever seen at a rodeo.

We snagged tickets for opening night and the night before we left, plus Melinda went back for Cowboy Church and to meander around and we went into town for one of the parades.
