Two years in a row now we have made it to Cheyenne Frontier Days… The Daddy of ‘Em All. (Rodeos, that is.) Last year, I was laid up in a wheel chair due to an unfortunate altercation with gravity and a motorcycle. This year, I was slightly more mobile. We stayed at Terry’s Bison Ranch RV Park for the second time and Melinda rode their train that tours the massive acreage and one of the largest bison herds in Wyoming. We rode the bikes to see the Thunderbirds fly, as well as one of the parades downtown. Melinda attended Cowboy Church in the arena. (She might have been going just to see the cowboys. Not sure.)
Frontier Days
One of the largest outdoor rodeos in the country, Cheyenne Frontier Days is a week of parades, carnival and most of all, rodeos. This year we went a couple of times , including the Finals. Awesome! This year we watched a guy break the Cheyenne Record for scoring in Bronc Riding. A 129 year old record! The last best score was 50 years ago. Pretty exciting if you’re into watching grown men strap themselves on to a 1500 pound animal and get beat half to death!
I can’t even tell you all the moving parts to Frontier Days. There’s the Miss Frontier Days, Chancey Williams (who opened for Brooks & Dunn, and was a former bronc rider who rode as a pick up man a couple of times during the rodeo), the rides, the food, the parades, the free pancakes breakfasts, the governor and his wife were there, a live telecast on the Cowboy Channel, and the Thunderbirds flew in Wings Over America. It was all good.
