Latest of our wild west adventures is a horseback trail ride. We rode through Shoshone National Forest. Melinda rode her horse like she rides her bike… gawking and taking pictures of everything, knowing that her invisible bubble will protect her from all harm. Melinda’s horse was “Ollie” and mine was “The Bomb”, short for “Mr. Boombastic”. Oh joy. I spent the first 20 minutes looking for the throttle and handlebars. Of course, we picked the hottest day of the year in Wyoming. One REAL cowboy in Melinda’s Cowboy Church said “Of course we’re tourists. Only tourists would ride on a 90+ ° day.”
The ride started out fine, but about half-way through, a girl’s horse ran off with her, then threw her off, and then ran off on its own; one guy’s horse kicked everything that got close to it, one girl lost her saddle…twice; two horse’s got into it, scaring a little girl badly; one of the guides walked the thrown girl back, leaving 13 riders with ONE guide. Once she found out (after about a half hour wait in the sun), she turned us around and brought us back. Then there was the chaos of turning all the restless horses around on a narrow trail. After all that. it was fun, and it was definitely a 2 hour adventure, just not necessarily the one we expected…
