As one of our ongoing adventures, Melinda, Gizmo, and I rode to Oatman, Arizona from Laughlin, NV to see the donkeys. These are the descendants of the burros that the miners, back in the day, just abandoned for one reason or another when the boom wore off. It was also during the Mayhem Motorcycle Rally held in Bullhead City, which welcomes thousands of bikers to the area. It is just an old mining ghost town, turned tourist trap but it was a lot of fun. The burros just walk right up to you for food. We were warned however, that they may react to the dog, thinking it is a coyote.
The town is out in the Mojave Desert on old Route 66 and if you go another mile, there are 191 curves in an 8 miles stretch. Luckily, the hundreds of bikers in that ghost town dissuaded Ms Daredevil to not make the run, due to excessive traffic.
