The beginning of June found us in New Jersey. This was one of the stops on Paul’s list to get to play card in Atlantic CIty. Turns out the only place to play $2/5 No Limit Hold ’em is The Borgata.
Bridge UNDER Troubled Water
To get here, we had to go through a tunnel to get to the tunnels (There’s a 1 mile tunnel to get to the Chesapeake Tunnels that they don’t tell you about!). We took the RV AND trailer over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel. 17 miles long with 1 mile of tunnel in two different places. The tunnels are 100 feet beneath the Atlantic Ocean. The maximum height of a vehicle is 13’6″ (ours is 12’6″, so no worries there) but the maximum width is 8’6″ wide. Ours is EXACTLY 8’6″ wide (the mirrors make it it 10’4″) so plenty of worries there. This is considered the scariest bridge/tunnel in America. Once you get through it, you go “That was no big deal!” Before you go through it, you go “BIG DEAL! BIG DEAL! BIG DEAL!”
The Truth Ferry
After that, we drove for 3 hours to get to the Lewes/Cape May Ferry which we parked the RV and trailer on and rode for 90 minutes to get the Delaware peninsula. As I said before, we drove ON LAND, OVER LAND, OVER WATER, ON WATER, & UNDER WATER in the span of one afternoon to get to New Jersey.
Melinda visited with her boss (who lives in Ocean City) and some cousins and I alternated between working on the sequel to Posse Whipped and playing poker every other day.
NOTE: The traffic in New Jersey is rough. Not as bad as the parking lot west of Orlando, but between the tolls, the number of stop lights, the amount and attitude of traffic, driving the 25 miles to Atlantic City took 45 minutes of white knuckles. The RV park was okay. Small, dusty roads. They were nice about moving the trailer and with TT, the price was right, but not in the Top Five.
