Melinda here…..
I am taking a turn writing a Blog article… every 6.75 years, apparently, I’m up!
I retired on October 17th after 47 glorious years in Insurance. Yes, I was the freak that “loved” her job. SO much so, that on my last day, I worked until around 6:00! Shortly thereafter, Paul helped me box up my laptop and 2 monitors and we called FedEx and they came and took my career away. No really, but it did feel rather odd. Thankfully, Paul’s niece, husband and son came to visit us that weekend, so I had other things on my mind.

My Nationwide send-off in Columbus, OH was really nice and rather overwhelming… it actually was at our 2025 team meeting and it also fell over my birthday, so that was “a lot”….. It felt like the Melinda Metheney Show… which, of course, I was okay with! My parting gifts were lovely… a leather coat (that I picked out myself) and a Lagos bracelet that I am almost scared to wear. (Nordstrom’s didn’t take off the price tag before they wrapped it…) Folks said wonderful things about me and then sent me on my way.
That first Monday, I had my entire to-Do list all done by noon. OK, this might take awhile to get used to… and that pretty much continued until about week #5 or so. This is business day #47 A.R. (After Retirement).
We are in San Benito, TX, where we will stay for the winter. There are plenty of things to do here and I can keep as busy as I want. I think I am bugging Paul less with each passing day… or at least I hope so.
Things I am enjoying include sewing, riding with the park’s motorcycle club (C.R.A.B.S. Conservative Retired Adult Bikers), playing Euchre, and various games and dances here in the park. In January, the line dancing lessons start, so I’ll be all over that. With my natural rhythm, I should be teaching it n about 45-50 years.
Monday, we head to Vegas for the Rodeo Nationals and Jeff Foxworthy. I love me some cowboys!
