Bless my wife. I have been a huge fan of the band Sawyer Brown since the ’80s and she found out they are playing at the Plant City Strawberry Festival not too far from us and bought tickets. The band has been playing together for about 40 years. They won Star Search in 1983 and have put out about 23 “albums” to date. My SB playlist has a bout 65 great songs on it.
According to Mark Miller, lead singer and songwriter for the band, Nashville never really embraced the band (back in the 80s) because they were a bit “too wild” and “too rock and roll.” Mark says he only ever listened to rock and gospel as a kid and his unique dancing style comes from his childhood in the Pentecostal church. A couple of the members of the band grew up in Apopka, FL, just one exit past where we are right now on I-4.
It was a bout a 40 mile drive on the bike on I-4 between Davenport, FL and Plant City, and the traffic was horrendous, but it was worth it. The Festival itself was…okay. Lots of food vendors and a few rides. The traffic getting to parking was terrible, but because we were on a motorcycle, we got to avoid the $20 parking fees.
Our Sawyer Brown video
FYI: We’re aware of a couple of issues. The video and audio are not synced. The video is to show the energy put out by the band and the music comes from the studio for better quality. Also the music is a sampling of four or five songs. The Jumbotron images looked great, but photo’s terribly.
