Anger & Motorcycle Maintenance

Ride Now Powersports in Concord, NC wanted an arm and a leg to put all new brakes on my bike. I refused. Actually, I said “I would burn the bike where it stands before I would pay that high a percentage of the price of the bike just to put on 3 brakes.” Instead, we trailored it to MotoMember Powersports in Chambersburg, PA (just outside of Gettysburg and with whom I had done business before). To be clear, Ride Now did NOT screw me over. They were honest and courteous (unlike some TEXAS Can-Am service places that I will go into more detail later about), but they were NOT afraid to charge WAY over market on services and parts. Exorbitantly so.

I am not shy about voicing my displeasure, especially when it comes to customer service, or the lack thereof. I am also the first to say when someone does a great job. Fair’s fair.

Russell from MotoMember in Chambersburg PA

Russell (in Parts) at MotoMember, of Chambersburg, PA (recommended by Jacob at Lamonster’s Garage in Missouri) had performed some miracles getting parts for me in the past and was doing so again with the brake parts. When Ride Now came in WAY too high, I checked with Russell and they could do the same job for a fraction (not a small fraction, but still less… and faster).

Honesty and Efficiency

Example, I brought the bike in on a Wednesday afternoon. They told me they couldn’t look at it until Thursday (reasonable and up front). They agreed that a busted caliper (as diagnosed by Ride Now) was unusual and that if it didn’t need it, they woud not do that. Thursday afternoon, I get a text and pictures that unfortunately, the pin on the caliper was busted and it WOULD need a new caliper and that most of the work was already done and I could have it back as early as Friday afternoon (2 day turn-around!), but it may be at late as Tuesday. Turns out it would be Tuesday to get the brakes bled properly (when putting on a new caliper)… due to the fact that Saturday is the 4th of July and they are normally closed Sun-Mon. So I am getting my bike back, as promised, 2.5 business days after I brought it in. Ride Now said it would take 12+ business days just to get the parts from Canada, if then, due to customs.

I can’t say enough good things about MotoMember. They have 4 locations throughout Georgia, VA, and PA. That gives them the biggest Can-Am dealership in America. And frankly, it shows. Between experience in the business (they could rattle parts’ numbers off in their heads) and being able to transfer parts between locations (avoiding Canadian shipping delays from BRP), these guys are fast, reliable, and affordable. They finished the work when they said they would (and frankly after being stuck an extra 6 weeks in Texas due to a bike shop being WRONG about that, it was a nice change of pace. Did Russell try to cross-sell me some accessories? Yes. But, that’s his job and he does it well and tactfully. He also graciously understood my reasons for rejecting those offers. He also offered us some spray to help fix the sun damage on the matte plastic parts of our bikes… as well as Ashley (service manager) swapping out my 6-year-old, discolored, custom windshield for the OEM one I had stored… FOR FREE. These guys get it.

So, if you need Can-Am (or any motorcycle) parts, call Russell at (703) 721-7000, option 3 for Chambersburg and if you are ever in mid-PA, stop in and say I said “hello,”
