To say that December and January have been a little busy would be an understatement. We planned for these to be maintenance months, but THIS is ridiculous! Here are just a a few of the plates we keep pinning in the air…

  • RV Body Work – accident on 11/29, hit a cement light pole. Called a dozen or so RV body shops, had about half show up for an estimate. Insurance paying for all but the deductible. Call orig manufacturer to find trailer door specs. ($750 deductible)
  • Engine Maintenance – oil & transmission fluid change, grease, check-up, called about 1 dozen or so places and only one or two in Yuma can do it. (dozen calls to find) ($800)
  • A/C & generator maintenance – oil change, filters, fluids, cleaning, called a half dozen places and settled on one. (dozen calls to find) ($662)
  • Reinstall night stand – fell off the wall – who knew it could do that?, same guy that worked on the A/C maintenance did this (see above)
  • Dentist – went to 1st appt in Mexico, way too high ($21,000) and wanted to pull all teeth and replace them with implants. Went to 2nd dentist and they lied about appointments, fees ($7000), payments, etc. Went to 3rd dentist and getting work done that my Charlotte dentist recommended (of course, he said $61,000 but I got it all done in Mexico for $5,500 including the insurance company’s part) in 1 day, not 3 days, or 6 months. (dozen calls to find) ($2500)
  • Door glass defogged – the side door was almost opaque, but now is like new ($200)
  • Slide-out repair (Wardrobe) – requires someone who can remove slide-out, take pictures, and show it was accident-related to the insurance company. (dozen calls to find) ($?)
  • Slide-out bedroom – replace motor and gearbox. Researched alternative motors/gearboxes, service providers. (dozen calls to find) ($1000)
  • Toilet – replace, leaks when traveling. Researched alternative toilets, service providers. ($400)
  • Can-Am Spyder – squeaking sprocket, no service dealers in Yuma (250 miles to Phoenix), found a motorcycle shop, replaced sprocket, still squeaks some. (dozen calls to find) ($359)
  • Get vet appointment for Gizmo for the Big Snip. (dozen calls to find) ($275)
  • Call for reservations for campgrounds to time our trip to Cheyenne, Wyoming for Frontier Days and Melinda’s family reunion. Spreadsheet & research & map campgrounds & route. ($?)
  • Hotel reservations – we have to stay at a hotel for 12 nights while all the work gets done on the RV. Dog-friendly, of course.
  • Upholstery – we were going to reupholster the captain’s chairs in the front of the RV, but with all these other expenditures, we decided that this cosmetic upgrade could wait. ($2200)
